Welcome to Potomac Field Hockey!!

Potomac Field Hockey is located in Northern Virginia, and serves hockey players primarily from Loudoun County, Virginia.  We are passionate about field hockey!  Our mission is to promote, teach, and grow the sport of field hockey.

We accomplish this through leagues for youth and adult, providing opportunities to grow with the game, and potentially to play in college or represent the US on one of the National Teams.  PFH is a member club with USA Field Hockey

Our league is funded entirely by registration fees, equipment profits, and sponsor donations.  Volunteers are critical to our success, and we thank all who support our goals and objectives!

Congratulations to U16 Player Josephine Robson
Josephine is tied for 5th in assists for the entire Washington Metro area and in the very first season of Loudoun varsity field hockey.
Josephine is a 15 and a sophomore at Heritage High School.  She started playing hockey with LFHA when she was 8 years old.  She has been with the PFH since its inception.

She joined the Potomac Rapids in fall 2012 and, with the exception of one season, has remained in the Rapids' program ever since. She's also been in the USAFH Futures program since 2012.

Josephine also swims for the Potomac Station Sailfish and recently became a Red Cross certified lifeguard.  She enjoys swimming, surfing, kayaking and hiking.  She is a member of the Interact club at Heritage, which is a community outreach program and has been able to volunteer with a local animal rescue group, which she loves doing.  Josephine also loves to travel and has been to England, France, Spain and the Caribbean.

Josephine currently holds a 4.0 GPA and expects to be a biology/zoology major in college with either a marine biology or veterinary post-grad program. She is planning to play hockey in college and is already interested in several Division III colleges.

The entire Potomac Field Hockey and Potomac Rapids family is very proud of you Josephine! You exhibit the standards and values that we expect our players to exhibit on and off the field.

Winter Indoor Training Program

Excited about field hockey? Want to improve your skills over the winter but not ready to commit to the rigors of a travel program?  Join PFH for our Winter Indoor Training Program. USAFH certified coaches will provide a focus on skills and scrimmages each week.  You do not have to be an experienced player to participate in this program!

What is Indoor Field Hockey?  Indoor Field Hockey is played on a court/floor and sticks are lighter and thinner.  The game is similar, but faster.  There are side boards that are used to play the ball (similar to ice hockey).  The main difference is that the ball may not be lifted off the floor except in a shot or flick on goal.

How Will Indoor Hockey Help My Outdoor Game?¢‚¬€¹  Because of the smooth surface, play is very fast.   This helps players develop their stick skills, timing, and body positioning.  The addition of sideboards helps players think more about passing angles.  This combination vastly improves your outdoor game!  Click here to learn more about indoor hockey.

Support your local high school field hockey team!
Loudoun Varsity Field Hockey is in it's inaugural season!  Support your local HS team and watch them play.  The school board voted not to fund girls field hockey, which means each high school team needs to raise about $18,000.00 each!  Every time you attend a game, the money for your ticket goes directly to girls field hockey.  Also continue to support your local team's fundraisers.
