Potomac Field Hockey is located in Northern Virginia, and serves hockey players primarily from Loudoun County, Virginia. We are passionate about field hockey! Our mission is to promote, teach, and grow the sport of field hockey.
We accomplish this through leagues for youth and adult, providing opportunities to grow with the game, and potentially to play in college or represent the US on one of the National Teams. PFH is a member club with USA Field Hockey.
Our league is funded entirely by registration fees, equipment profits, and sponsor donations. Volunteers are critical to our success, and we thank all who support our goals and objectives!

There was a great showing of support for field hockey from the community at the last School Board meeting on May 12. The Board discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the 3-tiered system for extra-curricular activities and had more questions for the group to consider before making the final vote on Tuesday May 26.
Email your school board member to let them know are excited to have field hockey added as a fully funded sport in the Fall of 2016!
ALL HANDS ON DECK ARE NEEDED AT THE NEXT MEETING ON MAY 26! Anyone and everyone interested in supporting the addition of field hockey to the Loudoun County Public Schools varsity athletic program should be there! Wear your field hockey jersey, pinnie, shirt, etc!
So much has happened in the Loudoun field hockey community since I launched the first youth field hockey rec league here in 2006. When I moved here in 2000, I was so excited that just 2 miles from my house was a high school - I couldn't wait to apply to coach field hockey there. However, it was shocking to me to find out that field hockey was not a varsity sport here in Loudoun County. In order to keep coaching my favorite sport, I had to drive to Falls Church HS in Fairfax County. It was my continued love for both coaching and playing field hockey that spurred me to work with a local sports marketing organization to create Loudoun Field Hockey Association giving Loudoun youth an opportunity to learn how to play as well as adults the opportunity to play by adding an adult rec component.
After 5 years of working with LFHA and seeing the growing passion for the sport, players and parents began asking for increased opportunities to play at more competitive levels and wanted a travel component added. Potomac Field Hockey was born in 2011 as a result of this request. Soon after, parents began asking PFH what we were doing to get field hockey added as a varsity sport in our county high schools. The IRS's rules for nonprofit organizations prevented PFH from doing the lobbying necessary to organize and lead the charge. We began talking to parents explaining to them the information that we had gathered from various places to help them move the effort forward.
Thanks to two very motivated parents of players in our league, Laramie Richbourg and Kathryn Samaha, Loudoun County is now on the verge of getting field hockey added to our schools as a varsity sport. Both of these awesome moms have been diligently working doing research, speaking to school staff, athletic directors and principals, attending school board, legislative and policy meetings as well as working with folks from other sports rec leagues to make this happen. They formed the advocacy group LoCo For Field Hockey to keep the effort focused and organized. They have made tremendous strides to include adding a tiered structure for extra-curricular activities to proposing that field hockey be added as a fully funded varsity sport.
The final push is NOW. It is critical for success that there be a strong showing at both school board meetings this month. PFH represents the future varsity field hockey players of our county. You can help ensure the vote will be to add field hockey by doing the following:
1. Come to the May 12th school board meeting at 6:30pm in your PFH gear. The school board will be discussing the field hockey proposal.
2. Send your school board member a quick note saying: "We are excited to have field hockey added as a fully funded sport in the Fall of 2016!"
3. Join us for the May 26th school board meeting at 6:30 in your PFH gear. The vote will take place at this meeting.
U14 just added! PFH has been invited to attend a Play Day with the Warhawks in Elkridge, MD. If we have at least 9 players/age group who are interested in attending this event, we would LOVE to send a team from each age group! Please
if you are interested!
The LoCo For Field Hockey advocacy group is making headway with the School Board. Two meetings will be held to discuss policy changes and to vote on whether field hockey will be added as a varsity sport in Fall of 2016! The first meeting date is May 12 for the discussion of the policy changes. The second meeting date on May 26 is to vote. Click to view the Facebook page and to view progress updates.
ALL HANDS ON DECK ARE NEEDED AT BOTH MEETINGS! Anyone and everyone interested in supporting the addition of field hockey to the Loudoun County Public Schools varsity athletic program should be there! Wear your field hockey jersey, pinnie, shirt, etc!
