VOLUNTEER COACHES REQUIRED
Potomac Field Hockey is a community based, volunteer-led program. In order to keep PFH thriving, it is important that we have parents and community members volunteer their time to help provide children a positive and fun environment to develop field hockey skills.
Often times we are faced with the problem of having more kids register than we have teams with coaches. We MUST have volunteers to continue to provide opportunities for our players to play. PLEASE consider volunteering your time to be a coach, assistant coach, or co-coach (with another parent or two)
We would be honored to have you join the PFH family. Our mission is to provide an environment where young players are guided and inspired to reach their full potential both on and off the field. We are committed to providing our community with a model of quality youth development, education, and inspiration through field hockey.
As a parent, you already know it takes all of us working together to help our children reach their full potential. We encourage all of our parents to get involved and volunteer to help out throughout the season.
Volunteer Coaches lead one team practice per week and coach games on Saturdays. No prior hockey experience is necessary! We can provide training, guidance, resources, and practice plans. We LOVE hockey and promise to provide you the assistance you need while growing and learning as a coach.
Register to coach when you register your child for our programs!
Team practices will begin the last week of March. Team practices will last for 1.5 hours with start times between 5:00 and 8:00pm depending on coach and field availability.
3/4th Grade - practices on Fridays
5th/6th Grade - practices on Tuesdays or Wednesdays depending on coach availability (PFH does not accept practice night requests - Refunds will not be given based on practice day & time assigned
7th/8th Grade - practices on Friday nights and in some cases Tuesday nights - Refunds will not be given based on practice day & time assigned
Games will be held on Saturdays from Mar 30th - Jun 1st with last date being FunFest. PFH teams may play interleague games with teams from Great Falls, Herndon-Reston, and McLean. Most games will be held in Leesburg on Saturdays; some games may be played in Herndon or Nike Field 4 off Utterback Store Rd. Regular season games will run until Saturday May 17th. No practices or game over spring break and/or Memorial Day weekend. The season ends on Saturday June 1st for the PFH Annual Fun Fest for all PFH teams. Fun Fest is a fun, tournament-style play day and will include fun contests.
Teams are determined by the grade of the player for the academic school year. 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th grade players are teamed together. Teams are created in priority of current school, high school cluster, then combining clusters together to make appropriately sizes teams. Teams vary in size from 9 to 13 players for 7v7 play. Players registered after teaming has been done will be placed where space exists. PFH does not take requests for specific coaches, practice nights, teams, etc. Players are teamed by school and then high school cluster to help facilitiate neighborhood carpools and to have girls playing together from the same schools since they will be future high school teammates. Depending on numbers each season, schools and high school clusters are sometimes combined. A combination team on season will not necessarily be a combined team in the next season since number of registered players from this combination can vary.
The Youth Rec League program runs in both spring and fall. The Spring season typically runs from the end of March through early June. The Fall season typically runs September through the end of October. A Winter indoor season may be added depending on facility availability.
All players must have a molded colored mouth guard, field hockey shin guards (not soccer shin guards), and stick. Cleats, sneakers or turf shoes may be worn.
All players must wear their PFH reversible pinnie at all practices & games.
