VOLUNTEER COACHES REQUIRED
Potomac Field Hockey is a community based, volunteer-led program. In order to keep PFH thriving, it is important that we have parents and community members volunteer their time to help provide children a positive and fun environment to develop field hockey skills.
Often times we are faced with the problem of having more kids register than we have teams with coaches. We MUST have volunteers to continue to provide opportunities for our players to play. PLEASE consider volunteering your time to be a coach, assistant coach, or co-coach (with another parent or two)
We would be honored to have you join the PFH family. Our mission is to provide an environment where young players are guided and inspired to reach their full potential both on and off the field. We are committed to providing our community with a model of quality youth development, education, and inspiration through field hockey.
As a parent, you already know it takes all of us working together to help our children reach their full potential. We encourage all of our parents to get involved and volunteer to help out throughout the season.
Volunteer Coaches lead one 1.5 hour practice per week, attend a one-hour Skills Session, and coach games on Saturdays. No prior hockey experience is necessary! We can provide training, guidance, resources, and practice plans. We LOVE hockey and promise to provide you the assistance you need while growing and learning as a coach.
Register to coach when you register your child for our programs!
Games will be held on Saturdays from September 9 until October 21 (no games on Oct 7 for Columbus Day weekend). Regular season games will run until Saturday October 14 and the season will conclude on Saturday October 21 with Interleague Finals games. Interleague play includes games with teams from Great Falls, Herndon-Reston, and McLean. A portion of our regular season games will be played at Nike Field in Great Falls. Some players will be selected for the 3rd annual NoVA All Star Tournament played at Bolen Park for Oct. 28. $10 per player fee will apply.
Teams are first determined by the grade of the player for the academic school year. 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th grade players are teamed together. Teams are then created in priority of current school, high school cluster, then combining clusters together to make appropriately sizes teams. Teams vary in size from 9 to 12 players for 7v7 play and 12-16 for 11v11 play. Players registered after teaming has been done will be placed where space exists. Team and coach requests can be made but are not a guarantee.
The Youth Rec League program runs in both spring and fall. The Spring season typically runs from the end of March through early June. The Fall season typically runs September through the end of October. A Winter indoor seasons may be added depending on facility availability.
All players must have a molded colored mouth guard, shin guards, and stick. Cleats or sneakers may be worn.
All players will be given a PFH pinnie that must be worn at all practice sessions and games.
