SWEET '16! THE GIRLS WILL PLAY FALL 2016
IT'S OFFICIAL! FIELD HOCKEY WILL BE ADDED FALL 2016 AS A VARSITY SPORT!
Last night was the second of two very important School Board meetings where the Board discussed and voted on the tiered structure for extra-curricular activities as well as adding field hockey as a VHSL-recognized sport. The School Board passed a motion for each!
The status of funding (fully-funded by the Schools or self-funded by players and their families), however, is to be determined. This is definitely a step in the right direction. We are waiting to share what the next steps are in order to push to get field hockey as a fully-funded sport.
Thank you to LoCo For Field Hockey and its organizers Laramie Richbourg and Kathryn Samaha for the big effort in getting this off the ground as well as everyone who has come out to support and represent at the School Board meetings, write their School Board members, play in our leagues, and spread the word about the good that field hockey can do for the girls in our county!
WE DID IT!!!
From April 2015
Save the Date: School Board Meetings
MAY 12 & MAY 26 • LCPS ADMIN BUILDING, ASHBURN
The LoCo For Field Hockey advocacy group is making headway with the School Board. Two meetings will be held to discuss policy changes and to vote on whether field hockey will be added as a varsity sport in Fall of 2016! The first meeting date is May 12 for the discussion of the policy changes. The second meeting date on May 26 is to vote. Click to view the Facebook page and to view progress updates.
ALL HANDS ON DECK ARE NEEDED AT BOTH MEETINGS! Anyone and everyone interested in supporting the addition of field hockey to the Loudoun County Public Schools varsity athletic program should be there! Wear your field hockey jersey, pinnie, shirt, etc!
From December 2014
ADDING HOCKEY AS A VARSITY SPORT
PFH is asking every player, parent, and coach, past and present, to help with this effort.
We believe the folks who have been working on this have done an amazing job of illustrating to Loudoun County Public Schools that the girls not only deserve but need to be given the opportunity to play given the vast difference between male and female sports playing opportunities in our school.
STEP 1 - write letters
Please take a moment to email a letter your high school principal as well as to the school board representatives for your high school (list link below). If you have time and are inclined please send them to any other members of the school board as well.
STEP 2 - attend the December 2 School Board Meeting
Please clear your calendars to attend the 6:30pm December 2nd School Board meeting at the LCPS admin building in Ashburn (behind Clydes Willow Creek Farm). ALL parents, families, players, and field hockey supporters please attend the meeting! Players please wear your jersey (PFH, Rapids, or high school club uniform)!
The effort needs a strong showing of support at this meeting. If you need to leave early, this is not a problem, but please attend! The bigger the attendance the bigger the impact. Who knows, maybe an early holiday present for our players will be field hockey added as a varsity sport in LCPS!

From October 2014:
Several parents have joined forces to petition the school board to get Field Hockey added to the varsity athletic program in Loudoun County High Schools. So far, "LoCo for Field Hockey" has contacted the Virginia High School League Field Hockey coordinator and is in the process of contacting each high school Athletic Director, compiling costs and looking at field space. This is a huge undertaking with a lot to be done in the next month. They need your support! Please "like" their facebook page, LoCo for Field Hockey,
where updates will be posted. If you want to help get Field Hockey into our High Schools please contact: Laramie Richbourg,
hope to go to the school board in December.
